This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Who's Zoomin' Who?, the thirty-first studio album from Aretha Franklin. This Platinum seller, produced by Narada (Michael Walden) from 1985 spent fifty-one weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 13. It also went to number 49 in the UK, number 15 in Australia, number 13 in Canada and number 3 on the US Billboard R&B chart. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 86 on its list of the 100 Greatest Albums of the 1980's.

Whitney Houston - Whitney Houston

Tomorrow (February 14th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of the self-titled debut album from the New Jersey born Whitney Houston. The album would eventually achieve multi-Platinum sales status, charting at number 13 in France, number 11 in Italy, number 9 in Austria, number 5 in the Netherlands, number 2 in Finland, Germany, Switzerland and the UK, and number 1 in Australia, Canada, Norway, and Sweden and on both the US Billboard Album and R&B charts. It spent a total of one hundred and sixty three weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, fourteen of which were at the top spot.

Patti Austin - Patti Austin

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of the self-titled, fifth studio album from American R&B singer Patti Austin. This one spent eighteen weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 87.

Stacy Lattisaw - Sixteen

This week (July 9th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Sixteen, the fifth studio album from R&B singer Stacy Lattisaw. It charted at number 160 on the US Billboard Hot 200 and number 26 on the US Billboard R&B chart.

Stacy Lattisaw - Let Me Be Your Angel

Happy forty-fifth birthday today (November 25th) to American R&B, dance and gospel singer Stacy Lattisaw.

Recording her first album Young and in Love at age twelve, the following year in 1980 she released her second Let Me Be Your Angel This record went to number 44 on the US Billboard 200 album charts and number 9 on the Billboard R&B charts. It also generated a trio of singles.

Bright Lights Big City (soundtrack)

Welcome to another edition of Soundtrack Sunday.

In 1988, Michael J. Fox took the lead role in the adaptation of a Jay McInerney novel Bright Lights, Big City. Fox played a New York City magazine fact-checker with a cocaine habit that was slowly ruining his life. This very engaging drama also starred Phoebe Cates as the ex-wife and Kiefer Sutherland as the enabling best friend. The film is pretty good and the novel is a great read.

The soundtrack album that accompanied the film has a rather interesting mix to it. The contributions range from big name acts to some much lesser known ones. I think the end result is a good one.
