TV: Pan Am (episode 12)

This week was the airing of the twelth episode of ABC's Pan Am. As regular readers recall, I had high hopes for this show at the start but it seemed to be spiraling into a cliched soap opera as week's progressed. Would this week be any different?

This week's episode is entitled "New Frontiers". Some of the crew is slated for a flight to Rome while Ted and Laura are still in New York dealing with some personal issues.

Let's take a look at the details...

TV: Pan Am (episode 11)

This week was the airing of the eleventh episode of ABC's Pan Am. Last week I was bemoaning about all the soap opera elements and wanted to see more of some of the earlier elements (the plane, travel, foreign countries).

This week's episode is entitled "Diplomatic Relations". The crew is chosen for a trip to Moscow, to help with diplomatic ties with the Soviet Union. Ah, can't have the 60's without those Cold War elements. Needless to say, it got a little unbelievable.

Let's take a look at the details...

TV: Pan Am (episode 10)

After a month long hiatus, this week was the airing of the tenth episode of ABC's Pan Am. If you recall, episode nine ended with a cliffhanger: Kate had shot and killed Bolger in order to save Anderson, her FBI ally. Dean and Colette slept together, Maggie had gotten involved with Congressman Chris Rawlings, and Laura was starting to realize she has feelings for Ted.

This week's episode is entitled "Secrets and Lies". Conflict arises between Maggie and Rawlings while fate intervenes between Colette and Dean. And just who has Ted believe is the love of his life? Oh, how the soap opera elements are swirling now.

Let's take a look at the details...

TV: Pan Am (episode 9)

This week was the airing of the ninth episode of ABC's Pan Am. The episode is entitled "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and the crew has a flight to London while Dean and Colette play hookie. Let's take a look at the details.

TV: Pan Am (episode 8)

This week was the airing of the eighth episode of ABC's Pan Am. Looking at the ratings numbers from Sunday night, the show actually recovered some lost altitude over the previous weeks. There were 5.69 million viewers this week which is slightly better than week five. Could we be seeing a comeback here?

Episode eight is entitled "Unscheduled Departure" where in the crew has to alter their course from Venezuela to Haiti due to a medical emergency. Let's take a look at the details.

TV: Pan Am (episode 7)

This week was the airing of the seventh episode of ABC's Pan Am. Looking at the ratings numbers from last night, the show seems to be holding strong at 5.24 million viewers. This leveling seems to support the network's cautious awarding of five more episodes to the run. That will likely get them up to thirteen, but do they have enough fuel to warrant the back nine? We'll have to wait and see.

Episode seven is entitled "Truth or Dare" which starts out with an entertaining game of that title between the four ladies. Sadly, it doesn't stay there that long. Let's take a look at the details.

TV: Pan Am (episode 6)

This week was the airing of the sixth episode of ABC's Pan Am. The ratings have stayed consistent now for three weeks now, clocking in at 5.46 million viewers. Is it enough to keep it from getting cancelled? We shall see.

Episode six is entitled "The Genuine Article" and we see that plotlines are continuing nicely from previous weeks. Let's take a look at the details.

TV: Pan Am (episode 5)

Last night was the airing of the fifth episode of ABC's Pan Am. Taking a quick look at the ratings, we see a leveling off over the last couple weeks. Episode 3 pulled in 6.38 million viewers, episode 4 pulled in 5.84 million viewers and last night's pulled in 5.77 million. Yes, the number are half down from the debut but they seem to have a core audience that is sticking with the show, for now.

Episode five is entitled "One Coin in a Fountain", a play on the title of a 1954 film Three Coins in the Fountain about a trio of American girls in Rome who work at the American Embassy. It was a film about romance and intrigue. Not sure if there is any connection or not. We'll see.

TV: Pan Am (episode 4)

Last night ended the fourth week of new programming and that means it was time for a new Pan Am. I don't have the ratings handy from last night so I can't tell yet if the show has started to climb, stabilized, or continued its descent.

Episode four is entitled “Eastern Exposure”. The crew gets a last-minute schedule change, going first to Rangoon before heading to Jakarta, Indonesia.

TV: Pan Am (episode 3)

Closing out the third week of new TV for the Fall season and Pan Am has been sliding a bit in the ratings from its debut with 11.06 million viewers to 7.76 million viewers for week two. I'm not sure how vested ABC is in the show (given all the advertising and such I would venture a lot), but if you haven't caught it yet and plan to - you better hurry. Episodes are available on ABC.com and on their iPad app. This one might be in for a bit more ratings turbulence.

Episode three is entitled “Ich Bin Ein Berliner” and centers around a famous conference in Germany where John F. Kennedy is to speak.

TV: Pan Am (episode 2)

Any time you have a show like Pan Am where the pilot episode was clearly a place they invested a lot of money (you have to spend money to make money - or attract viewers, right?), you have to be a little cautious of how they'll follow it up. As I mentioned last week, I was going to need to see how the episodes unfolded to determine if I would be investing more time on the show or not.

So, yesterday afternoon I fired up the ABC app on my iPad, started walking on the treadmill and watched episode 2 entitled “We’ll Always Have Paris”. The title was fitting since most of the episode centers around the crew’s flight to Paris and time there after they arrive.

TV: Pan Am (series premiere)

This weekend, a new drama debuted Sunday night on the ABC network. Pan Am is a period drama that focuses on pilots and stewardesses working for the world-famous Pan American World Airways in 1963. The program is written by Jack Orman, who wrote for ER, and is directed by Thomas Schlamme, who directed the West Wing.
