Simple Minds - Once Upon a Time

Today (October 21st) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Once Upon a Time, the seventh studio album from Simple Minds. The multi-Platinum seller from 1985 scored at number 7 in Australia, France and Switzerland, number 4 in Sweden, number 3 in Canada and New Zealand, number 2 in Italy, and number 1 in the Netherlands and the UK. Here in the US, it spent forty-two weeks on the Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 10.

Simple Minds - Sparkle in the Rain

Today (February 6th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Sparkle in the Rain, the sixth studio album from the Scottish band Simple Minds. Following New Gold Dream from the previous year (click here for that review), this 1984 release went to number 64 on the US Billboard Album chart (with a twenty-four week stay on the chart), number 19 in Switzerland, number 17 in France, number 15 in Australia, number 2 in the Netherlands and Sweden, and number 1 in New Zealand and the UK.

Simple Minds - New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84)

Tomorrow (September 13th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of New Gold Dream, the fifth studio album from the Scottish band Simple Minds. In 1982, the group consisted of Jim Kerr on lead vocals, Charlie Burchill on guitars, Michael MacNeil on keyboards, and Derek Forbes on bass. A trio of drummers was used across the nine tracks (Mike Ogletree on tracks 2, 5 and 6; Kenny Hyslop on track 3; Mel Gaynor on the remaining).
