The Cars - The Cars (35th anniversary)

On this day (June 6th) back in 1978, the Cars released their self-titled debut album. Today we mark the thirty-fifth anniversary of this smash.

This is a great album to listen to anytime but I especially like it in the Summer for two reasons and one song.

1) During the last week of school in June 1982, I was assistant to the music supervisor for our high school's air guitar contest. We played five songs while people took their seats in the auditorium before the show began. All of the songs took full advantage of the wonderful acoustics:

Children of the Sun - BILLY THORPE
Peace of Mind - BOSTON
Tom Sawyer - RUSH
Too Much Time On My Hands - STYX
Moving In Stereo - THE CARS

2) Just like you mentioned in your original review. Phoebe Cates. Red Bikini.

Fast Times At Ridegmeont High.

The segue between "Moving In Stereo" and "All Mixed Up" is a thing of beauty as well. Ripped them as one track to preserve it.

Thanks for triggering another wonderful memory with your post.

Herc, I like that five song set. I am very familiar with most of them. Good choices.
