This was our book club title at the library for August 2026. I figured the theme of a neighborhood block party fit the summer season nicely.
While this one does start with a murder, the bulk of the story is told in the year leading up to the incident as we learn more about the residents of this neighborhood, their secrets, and more. It is an interesting approach to take for the story that might not work for all readers. I am hoping my discussion group finds it interesting. We'll know in a few weeks.
There was a quote that stood out to me that summed up this book nicely: chapter 40, Samir Kumar says "it seems nobody on Alton Road can mind their own business." That really sums up the book well for me too.
