Psychedelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk (35th anniversary)

Today (June 6th) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Talk Talk Talk, the second studio album from the Psychedelic Furs. It reached number 30 on the UK album charts and number 89 on the US Billboard Album chart (with a fourteen week total stay on that latter chart).

Pretty In Pink (soundtrack) (30th anniversary)

Welcome to another Soundtrack Sunday.

Today (February 28th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of the soundtrack from Pretty In Pink. The album spent a grand total of twenty-seven weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 5. The album appears on the Huffington Post's list of "Best Movie Soundtracks: the 15 Film Music Compilations That'll Change Your Life" and on Rolling Stone's "The 25 Greatest Soundtracks of All Time".

The Psychedelic Furs - The Psychedelic Furs (35th anniversary)

Today (February 27th) marks the thirty fifty anniversary of the self-titled debut album from The Psychedelic Furs. This 1980 record performed fairly well, reaching number 18 on the native UK charts; in the US the record spent seven weeks on the Billboard Album chart and made it to number 140.

the Psychedelic Furs - Mirror Moves

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Mirror Moves, the fourth studio album from the Psychedelic Furs. World-wide, it went number 92 in Australia, number 26 in Sweden, number 16 in Canada, number 15 in the UK and number 5 in New Zealand. Here in the US, it spent twenty-seven weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 43.

The Psychedelic Furs - Forever Now

Following on the heels of their 1980 self-titled debut and the sophomore release Talk Talk Talk (click here and here respectively for my reviews of each of those) the Psychedelic Furs put out their third studio album Forever Now in 1982. Today (September 25th) celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of the release of that record.

Happy Birthday, Tim Butler

Happy fifty-third birthday today (December 7th) to Tim Butler of the Psychedelic Furs. The English songwriter and bassist was a co-founder of the band along with his older brother Richard. The group started out from the emerging punk scene in the late 1970's. While the group was influential on the music scene, particularly on college radio stations, their only big crossover hit was the title track for the film Pretty In Pink (click here for that soundtrack review).

After the Furs broke up, Tim and Richard Buttler were also founding members of the alternative band Love Spit Love in the early 90's.

The Psychedelic Furs - The Psychedelic Furs

In 1980, the sextet of musicians out of England released its first studio album, the appropriately self-titled The Psychedelic Furs. The record performed fairly well, reaching number 18 on the native UK charts; in the US the record made it to number 140 on the Billboard 200 album charts. For this review, I am posting the US album cover and that track listing.

Side one opens with “India”, an over six minute track with a low-key, moody start. After two minutes, it explodes into a high energy rocking beat thanks to Vince Ely on drums and John Ashton, Roger Morris and Tim Butler on guitars. I like the power behind this one as the band shows it is here to rock.

Talk Talk Talk from 1981 was the second studio album from the Psychedelic Furs. It reached number 30 on the UK album charts and number 89 on the US Billboard Album chart. The album appears on the "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" list.

The UK album/CD release has a different track listing order than the US version. I'll take a look at this album in its US format.
