Kim Carnes - Mistaken Identity (35th anniversary)

This month marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Mistaken Identity, the sixth studio album from Kim Carnes. This 1981 release spent fifty-two weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, including four weeks at the number 1 spot. The album earned Carnes nominations in two Grammy categories the following year - for Best Pop Female and for Album of the Year.

Linda Ronstadt - Mad Love

This month marks the thirty fifth anniversary of Mad Love, the tenth studio album from Linda Ronstadt. With this record, she was well into her second decade as a recording artist. This 1980 release hit number 65 in the UK, number 37 in the Netherlands, number 22 in New Zealand, number 12 in Japan, number 11 in Canada and number 6 in Australia. Here in the US, it debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 3, and spending a total of thirty-six weeks on the chart. It was also nominated for a Grammy award the following year.

JD Souther - You're Only Lonely (35th anniversary)

Welcome to another edition of Seventies Saturday.

In September of 1979, JD Souther released his third solo album You’re Only Lonely. This 1979 release, which is celebrating its thirty-fifth anniversary, spent twenty-two weeks on the US Billboard Album chart and peaked at number 41.

Steve Perry - Street Talk

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Street Talk, the solo debut album from Journey front man Steve Perry. It spent sixty weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 12. It also went to number 59 in the UK.

Linda Ronstadt - Living in the USA

This month marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Living in the USA, the ninth studio album from Linda Ronstadt. This 1978 release went to number 39 in the UK, number 23 in Japan, number 19 in the Netherlands, number 9 in Canada, number 3 in Australia and New Zealand, and number 1 on the US Billboard Album chart.

Ringo Starr - Old Wave

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Old Wave, the ninth solo studio album by Ringo Starr. Starr worked with producer Joe Walsh on this 1983 album; Walsh was just coming off of the disbanding of the Eagles.

Besides Walsh on guitar, Starr was also joined by Gary Brooker of Procol Harum, John Entwistle of the Who, Eric Clapton, and Waddy Wachtel on some of the tracks.

Stevie Nicks - The Wild Heart

This week (June 10th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of The Wild Heart, the second studio album from Stevie Nicks. This 1983 release went double-Platinum in the US after peaking at number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 200. It also charted at number 28 in the UK, number 19 in Sweden, number 17 in New Zealand, number 8 in Australia and number 7 in Canada.

Joe Walsh - You Bought It - You Name It

Today (May 21st) marks the thirtieth anniversary of You Bought It - You Name It, the sixth solo studio album from American rocker Joe Walsh. It peaked at number 48 on the US Billboard Hot 200 and produced a couple tracks that were big on the US Mainstream Rock chart.

Joining Walsh on the record was Kevin Dukes (guitar), Don Felder (guitar and vocals), Don Henley (guitar and backing vocals), Michael Martin Murphey (vocals), George Perry (bass), Timothy B. Schmitt (vocals), Joe Vitale (various instruments) and Waddy Wachtel (guitar).

Marty Balin - Lucky

American born musician Marty Balin was part of Jefferson Airplane in the 1970's before embarking on a solo career in the early 80's.

Today (February 11th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of the release of Lucky, his second solo studio album. It peaked at number 156 on the US Billboard Hot 200 chart. Balin provided the vocals on the record while being joined by Steve Goldstein (keyboards and synthesizers), Louis Biancaniello (synthesizers), Waddy Wachtel (guitar), Kevin McCormick (bass) and Rick Marotta (drums).

JD Souther - You're Only Lonely

Welcome to another edition of Seventies Saturday. This weekend we wish a very happy sixty-seventh birthday to American musician, singer/songwriter and actor JD (John David) Souther.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Amarillo, Texas, he moved to Los Angeles, California, in the late 1960’s where he became roommates with Glenn Frey (of the Eagles) and lived upstairs from Jackson Browne. After his first solo record in 1972, he joined with Chris Hillman and Richie Furay to form the aptly-named group Souther Hillman Furay Band. He wrote many hits for the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt.

Linda Ronstadt - Get Closer

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Get Closer, the eleventh studio album from singer-songwriter Linda Ronstadt. This September of 1982 release went to number 48 in Canada, number 29 in Japan and number 26 in Australia. In the US, the album hit number 31 on the Billboard Hot 200 and number 19 on the Billboard Country charts, achieving a Gold sales certification.

Don Henley - I Can't Stand Still

From 1972 to 1980, Don Henley served as the drummer and lead singer for the Eagles. When the band broke up, Henley embarked on a career as a solo artist.

Today (August 13th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of I Can’t Stand Still, his debut solo album from 1982. The Gold selling record went to number 34 in Sweden, number 24 in the UK, number 22 in Norway, number 14 in New Zealand and number 5 in Canada. In the US, it topped out at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart.

Kim Carnes - Mistaken Identity

Happy sixty-seventh birthday later this week (on July 20th) to American singer-songwriter Kim Carnes.

In April of 1981, Carnes released Mistaken Identity, her sixth studio album. It went to number 26 on the UK, number 4 in Canada, and number 2 in Australia. It spent four weeks at the number 1 spot of the US Billboard Album chart(from June 27th to July 24th that summer). The album earned Carnes nominations in two Grammy categories the following year - for Best Pop Female and for Album of the Year.

Warren Zevon - The Envoy

Today (July 16th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of the release of The Envoy, the fifth studio album from the American singer-songwriter Warren Zevon. After strong showings on the charts for his previous two albums (both top 20), this one showed a remarked slide in public favor. It only got as far as number 93 on the US Billboard Hot 200.

Zevon has help from a number of musicians on the record, including vocal harmonies from Don Henley (tracks one and five), Lindsey Buckingham (track two), J.D. Souther (tracks six and eight) and Graham Nash (track eight). His band for the album included Waddy Wachtel (guitar, percussion), David Landau (guitar), Leland Sklar (bass) and Jeff Porcaro (drums).
