KISS - Destroyer

Today (March 15th) marks the fortieth anniversary of Destroyer, the fourth studio album from KISS. This 1976 multi-Platinum release spent seventy-eight weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 11. It also reached number 36 in Germany, number 25 in Norway, number 22 in the UK, number 17 in Japan, number 16 in New Zealand, number 13 in Switzerland, number 6 in Australia and Canada, and number 4 in Sweden.

KISS - Animalize

Today (September 13th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Animalize, the twelfth studio album from KISS. This one spent thirty-eight weeks on the US Billboard Album chart and peaked at number 19. It also went to number 41 in Canada, number 40 in Australia, number 25 in Germany, number 14 in Austria and Norway, number 11 in the UK, number 9 in Switzerland, number 8 in Sweden, and number 4 in Finland.

KISS - Dynasty (35th anniversary)

Today (May 23rd) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Dynasty, the seventh studio album from KISS. This Platinum seller spent twenty-five weeks in 1979 on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 9.

KISS - Lick It Up

Today (September 18th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Lick It Up, the eleventh studio album from KISS. To correspond with the record’s release, the band members (Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr) did a half-hour MTV interview with vee-jay J.J. Jackson without their trademark makeup.

KISS - Creatures of the Night

Today (October 13th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Creatures of the Night, the tenth studio album for KISS. It was the last with Ace Frehley credited as a member (until 1998's Psycho Circus) even though he did not play on the record and the first album for lead guitarist Vinnie Vincent who would officially join the band on the next album.

Happy sixtieth birthday today (January 20th) to Paul Stanley.

Since they recorded on Casablanca Records, a label known in the late 1970’s as one of the homes of many disco acts, it is no surprising that the hard-rocking band KISS would end up putting out a record with dance overtures. Of course, this being KISS the result was going to be big, loud and theatric. The end result was 1979’s Dynasty, the seventh studio album for the group, released on May 23rd.

Welcome to another edition of "Seventies Saturday".

In the spring of 1976, the American rock band KISS released its fourth studio album Destroyer. It was the second album by the group to reach the US top 20, and it was certified gold after just a month. The sales started to cool though as quickly as they had started, and the record dropped fast. The unexpected interest in one of the B-sides that radio stations had been playing re-sparked the sales. "Beth" was re-released as a single, giving the band their first top 10 song. Rolling Stone magazine, who initially panned the album in its first reviews, later ranked it number 496 on their 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time list.
