Donna Summer - A Love Trilogy

Today (March 5th) marks the fortieth anniversary of A Love Trilogy, the third studio album from Donna Summer. This 1976 release spent twenty-seven weeks on the US Billboard
Album chart, peaking at number 21. It also climbed to number 41 in the UK, number 24 in Germany, number 18 in Sweden, number 16 on the US Billboard R&B chart, number 14 in Norway, number 8 in Austria, and number 1 in both Italy and Spain. Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte served as both producers and co-writers of all but one of the tracks on the record.

Donna Summer - The Wanderer

Today (October 20th) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of The Wanderer, the eighth studio album from Donna Summer and her first release on the Geffen Records label. This 1980 release spent eighteen weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 13. It also went to number 55 in the UK, number 54 in Germany, number 18 in Australia and Norway, number 16 in New Zealand, number 15 in Sweden, and number 12 on the US Billboard R&B chart.

American Gigolo (soundtrack) (35th anniversary)

Welcome to another edition of Soundtrack Sunday.

Today (February 8th) marks the thirty fifth anniversary of the release of soundtrack from American Gigolo. The accompanying movie starred Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton and told the tale of a self-centered, superficial male prostitute in Los Angeles. The soundtrack recording did fairly well too. The album went all the way to number 7 on the US Billboard 200 Album chart, spending twenty-five weeks total on the chart.

Donna Summer - Bad Girls

Today (April 25th) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Bad Girls, the double-record seventh studio album from Donna Summer. It spent forty-nine weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, including six weeks at the number 1 spot. It also reached number 24 in the Netherlands, number 23 in the UK, number 9 in Japan, number 7 in Germany, number 6 in Australia, number 3 in Norway, New Zealand and Sweden, and number 1 in Canada and on the US Billboard R&B chart.

D.C. Cab (soundtrack)

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of the release of D.C. Cab, an R-rated comedy film written and directed by Joel Schumacher, and starring Mr. T. (of the A-Team), Max Gail (of Barney Miller), Adam Baldwin, Gary Busey, Bill Maher, Marsha Warfield, Paul Rodriguez and Irene Cara.

Irene Cara - What A Feelin'

Following her appearance in the movie Fame (click here for that soundtrack album) and her 1982 debut Anyone Can See (click here), Irene Cara put out her second studio album in 1983. Today (November 2nd) marks the thirtieth anniversary that record which charted at number 77 on the US Billboard Album chart, number 49 in Australia, number 45 on the US Billboard R&B chart, number 29 in Germany, number 12 in Norway, number 8 in Switzerland and number 3 in Sweden.

Welcome to another edition of Soundtrack Sunday.

In 1980, Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton starred in a film about a self-centered, superficial male prostitute in Los Angeles. With a budget of around $4.8 million, American Gigolo returned a tidy domestic box-office of almost $23 million.

The soundtrack recording did fairly well too. The album went all the way to number 7 on the US Billboard 200 Album charts. The cuts also spent a number of weeks in the top positions on the disco/dance charts. That is no surprise since Italian dance maestro Giorgio Moroder had his hand in writing all the tracks on the album.
