The 1985 release hit number 26 on the US Billboard Album chart with a fifty-three week long run on the chart. Around the globe, it hit number 78 in the UK, number 36 in Australia, number 10 in Canada, and number 9 in Germany.

Nick Lowe - Nick Lowe & His Cowboy Outfit

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Nick Lowe & His Cowboy Outfit, the fifth studio album from Nick Lowe. This 1984 release spent twelve weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 113.

Roxy Music - Manifesto

Welcome to another edition of Seventies Saturday.

Today (March 1st) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Manifesto, the sixth studio album from Roxy Music. This 1979 release went to number 23 on the US Billboard Album chart and number 7 in the UK. The band included Bryan Ferry (vocals, keyboards and harmonica), Paul Carrack (keyboards), Andy Mackay (oboe and saxophone), Phil Manzanera (guitar), Alan Spenner (bass), Gary Tibbs (bass) and Paul Thompson (drums).

The Smiths - The Smiths

Today (February 20th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of the self-titled debut album from the Smiths. This 1984 release only got to number 150 on the US Billboard Album chart (with eleven weeks total on the chart). It did however, climb to number 77 in Australia, number 65 in Canada, number 44 in Sweden, number 28 in the Netherlands, number 9 in New Zealand and number 2 in the UK (with thirty-three weeks total on that chart).

Pretenders - Learning to Crawl

Today (January 17th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Learning to Crawl, the third studio album from the Pretenders. This 1984 Platinum seller reached number 38 in Germany, number 30 in Switzerland, number 19 in New Zealand, number 18 in Australia and Norway, number 11 in the UK, number 5 on the US Billboard Album chart, number 4 in Canada, and number 3 in Sweden.

Nick Lowe - The Abominable Showman

Today (March 24th) marks the sixty-fourth birthday of singer/songwriter Nick Lowe.

In March of 1983, Lowe released The Abominable Showman, his fourth solo studio album. Joining him on this record were Martin Belmont (guitar), Paul Carrack (keyboards and vocals), James Eller (bass) and Bobby Irwin (drums and vocals). Today we’ll take a look at the release in honor of its thirtieth anniversary.

Paul Carrack - Suburban Voodoo

English musician, singer and songwriter Paul Carrack has worked along side numerous bands: Ace, Squeeze, Mike + the Mechanics, and Roxy Music to name but a few. In the early 1980’s, he embarked on a solo career.

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Suburban Voodoo, his second solo studio release. The album went to number 78 on the US Billboard Hot 200.

Roxy Music - Avalon

Today (May 26th) marks the 30th anniversary release of Avalon, the eighth and last studio album by Roxy Music.

This 1982 release by Bryan Ferry (lead vocals, keyboards), Alan Spenner (bass), Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy MacKay (saxophone, oboe), Paul Carrack (keyboards) and Andy Newmark (drums) went to number 53 on the US Billboard Hot 200 and number 1, for three weeks, on the UK charts. The album was ranked at number 307 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time and number 31 on its list of the Top 100 Albums of the 1980’s.
