Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (30th anniversary)

Today (May 13th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Brothers in Arms, the fifth studio album from Dire Straits. It peaked at number 1 on the US Billboard Album chart with a ninety-seven week run total on the chart. It also hit number 1 in Australia, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

Dire Straits - ExtendedancEPlay

Today (January 10th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of the release of Extendedanc
EPlay
, the first extended play from the British rock band Dire Straits. In some markets it was known by the title of the first track - Twisting By the Pool. The UK version featured three tracks totals. The US version, which went to number 53 on the Billboard Hot 200, featured four tracks. It was the first record with drummer Terry Williams joining the group; he replaced the departed Pick Withers.

An Officer and a Gentleman (soundtrack)

Welcome to another edition of Matinee Monday.

It was the middle of the summer of 1982 when Richard Gere and Debra Winger were heating up the movie screens in An Officer and a Gentleman, an American drama about a Navy aviation officer candidate (Gere) and a Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant (played by Louis Gossett, Jr.). Winger played the love interest for Gere’s character.

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

In 1985, the British rock band Dire Straits released their fifth studio album Brothers in Arms. The record was a commercial success for the band, spending ten weeks at number 1 on the UK Album Chart and nine weeks at number 1 on the US Billboard Album chart (with ninety-seven weeks total on the charts). It also went to number 1 in eight other countries and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide since its debut.
