I have been devouring this series in 2022. We read the first book (The Thursday Murder Club) for our library mystery book club in June. I read the sequel (The Man Who Died Twice) in July. And this month, I am back again for The Bullet That Missed. It has been a fun ride getting to know the ever-growing cast of characters in the series. Osman is doing a fantastic job continually fleshing out the world in which they live and is slowly revealing more and more background details of the main cast in each book.
I grew up on watching British shows on PBS, so the humor in these books is right up my alley. In many ways, there is a dark comedy slant to it. This is a world not strictly black and white; the characters dwell very much in that gray in-between. That makes them, for me, much more realistic as many people in the world are just like that. I enjoy the building of the relationships - be they plutonic or romantic, friends or rivals. While the mysteries are interesting, it is the complex characters that keeps drawing me back to the series. And the latest one continues that nicely.
Hopefully the series will continue for another book and beyond. There are plenty of things to follow-up on from this one.
