This week (October 20th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Yours Forever, the fifth studio album from R&B group Atlantic Starr. This 1983 release followed the Gold seller Brilliance (click here for that review) and charted at number 91 on the US Billboard Hot 200 and number 10 on the US Billboard R&B chart. This was also the final album for lead-singer Sharon Bryant before she left the group to pursue a solo career.
Side one begins with the title track. "Yours Forever" has a steady beat and strong synth line through out, good for a warming up the dance floor.
"Touch A Four Leaf Clover" was the first single; it charted at number 87 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 4 on the Billboard R&B chart. A smooth mid-tempo groove and Bryant’s sweet vocals make a great cocktail for this seductive number.
The passionate piano-centric "More, More, More" begged its way to number 11 on the US Billboard R&B chart. This slow-dance ballad duet pairs Bryant with Wayne Lewis.
"I Want Your Love" bounces in next on a mid-tempo beat.
Side two starts with "Second To None", a sweet song about love and devotion. It charted at number 50 on the US Billboard R&B chart.
"Island Dream" swings with a funky groove courtesy of Clifford Archer on bass.
The next track poses the question "Who Could Love You Better?" This mid-tempo number gives a not so subtle reminder.
Things slow down a tad with the smoldering "More Time For Me".
The album then ends with "Tryin'".
Yours Forever was another of those early 80’s R&B albums that I had not heard back in the day. Had I, though, I certainly would have liked it. Atlantic Starr’s sound fell right into that dance and ballad category that dominated many of my college evenings out dancing.
This is a blog about recreational hobbies that I am interested in (music, TV, movies, books). I also talk about what's on my mind or things that happen in life around me. Please feel free to post comments; I want this to be an interactive dialogue. If you like what you read, please share it with your friends. Thanks.
