Stevie Wonder - In Square Circle

Today (September 13th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of In Square Circle, the twentieth studio album from Motown legend Stevie Wonder. This multi-Platinum 1985 release rose to number 16 in the Netherlands, number 12 in Austria, number 11 in France, number 8 in Australia and Germany, number 7 in Canada and New Zealand, number 5 on the US Billboard Album chart (with a fifty week total chart run) and in the UK, number 4 in Switzerland, number 3 in Italy, Norway and Japan, number 2 in Sweden, and number 1 on the US Billboard R&B chart.

Eurythmics - Be Yourself Tonight

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Be Yourself Tonight, the fourth studio album from Eurythmics. This Platinum seller went to number 25 in Austria, number 20 in France, number 9 in Switzerland, number 8 in Germany, number 3 in the UK, number 2 in New Zealand, Norway and Sweden, and number 1 in Australia. Here in the US, it spent forty-five weeks on the Billboard Album chart with a top spot of number 9.

Chaka Khan - I Feel For You

Earlier this week (the 1st) marked the thirtieth anniversary of I Feel For You, the fifth solo studio album from Chaka Khan. It spent forty-nine weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 14. It also charted at number 71 in Australia, number 15 in the UK, and number 4 on the US Billboard R&B chart.

The Woman In Red (soundtrack)

Today (August 28th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of the release of The Woman In Red, the soundtrack album for the film of the same name. The romantic comedy, starring Gene Wilder, Charles Grodin, Gilda Radner and Kelly LeBrock in her screen debut, was an adaptation of a 1976 French film called Pardon Mon Affaire.

DeBarge - In A Special Way

Following their 1982 album All This Love (click here for that review), the five-member family group DeBarge returned to the studio to work on their third album. The result was 1983’s In A Special Way which is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary today (September 24th). This one charted similarly to its predecessor, reaching number 36 on the US Billboard Album chart and number 4 on the US Billboard R&B chart.

This week marks the release of V: Jammin’, the seventh studio album from the Gap Band (Charlie, Ronnie and Robert Wilson). This Gold selling album charted at number 28 on the US Billboard 200 Album chart and number 2 on the US Billboard R&B chart.

Elton John - Too Low For Zero

This month we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Too Low For Zero, the seventeenth studio album from rock legend Elton John. This multi-Platinum seller reached number 71 in Japan, number 30 in Sweden, number 28 in the Netherlands, number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 200, number 17 in Canada, number 11 in France, number 7 in the UK, number 6 in Norway and Switzerland, number 5 in Germany, and number 2 down-under in Australia and New Zealand.

Stevie Wonder's Original Musiquarium I

Today (May 4th) marks the 30th anniversary of Stevie Wonder's compilation album Stevie Wonder's Original Musiquarium I. This 1982 release gathers together many of Wonder's biggest hits from the period of 1972 to 1980. The double-record set, which also included four brand new tracks, peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 200 chart and number 1 on the US Billboard R&B chart. It also reached number 8 on the UK charts.

Paul McCartney - Tug of War

Today (April 26th) marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Paul McCartney’s fourth solo studio album, the first solo album since the end of the band Wings in April of the previous year.

Tug of War was a chart topping album in a number of countries. It went to number 1 in the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Japan and in the US. It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and earned McCartney an American Music Award nomination for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist.
