Simon & Garfunkel - The Concert In Central Park (35th anniversary)

Today (February 16th) marks the 35th anniversary of the release of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel’s 1982 live double-album The Concert In Central Park. The duo had gone their solo ways over a decade before but they reunited in September of 1981 for a free concert on the Great Lawn of Central Park in New York City. The show was attended by more the 500,000 people and was videotaped for an airing on HBO in 1982. The album spent thiry-four weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 6.

Paul Simon - Graceland (30th anniversary)

Today (August 25th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Graceland, the seventh studio album from Paul Simon. This Grammy Award winning Album of the Year for 1986, spent ninety-seven weeks on the US Billboard Album chart but only peaked at number 3.

Today (August 29th) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of the release of One-Trick Pony, a film written by and starring singer-songwriter Paul Simon as a once-popular folk singer who has not had a hit in a decade. The soundtrack for One-Trick Pony was the fifth solo album for Simon. The record spent twenty-six weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 12.

Paul Simon - Heart and Bones

Today (November 4th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Heart and Bones, the sixth solo studio album from Paul Simon. This one reached number 99 in Australia, number 51 in Germany, number 35 on the US Billboard Album chart, number 34 in the UK, number 19 in France, number 14 in the Netherlands, number 11 in Sweden and number 3 in Norway.

On August 29th of 1980, Warner Brothers released One-Trick Pony, a film written by and starring singer-songwriter Paul Simon as a once-popular folk singer who has not had a hit in a decade. His co-stars were Blair Brown, Joan Hackett and Rip Torn.

The soundtrack for One-Trick Pony was the fifth solo album for Simon. The record went Gold in the US, peaking at number 12 on the US Billboard Album chart; it spent twenty-six weeks total on that chart. It also reached number 35 in Japan, number 23 in Canada, number 17 in the UK, number 15 in Australia, number 11 in France, number 9 in Sweden, number 8 in the Netherlands, number 6 in New Zealand and number 2 in Norway.

Paul Simon - Graceland

During the 1960’s, Paul Simon partnered with Art Garfunkel for five albums. Afterwards, he went solo for the 70’s and 80’s In 1986, he released Graceland, his seventh studio album, but this time he had a little bit of help - some very talented South African musicians including the vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Graceland won the 1986 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Rolling Stone ranked it number five on its list of 100 Greatest Albums of the 80’s and number 81 on its list of 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time. It also sold over 10 million copies world-wide.

It went to number 46 in Japan, number 15 in Spain, number 13 in Norway and Sweden, number 4 in Italy, number 3 on the US Billboard Album chart, and number 1 in Australia, Canada, France, Switzerland and the UK.
