Linda Ronstadt - Mad Love

This month marks the thirty fifth anniversary of Mad Love, the tenth studio album from Linda Ronstadt. With this record, she was well into her second decade as a recording artist. This 1980 release hit number 65 in the UK, number 37 in the Netherlands, number 22 in New Zealand, number 12 in Japan, number 11 in Canada and number 6 in Australia. Here in the US, it debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 3, and spending a total of thirty-six weeks on the chart. It was also nominated for a Grammy award the following year.

Christopher Cross - Christopher Cross (35th anniversary)

This month marked the thirty fifth anniversary of Christopher Cross, the self-titled is a soft-rock classic debut from a Texas-born singer/songwriter. It went multi-platinum in the US (reaching number 6 on the Billboard Album chart - a chart where it spent over one hundred and sixteen weeks total) as well as selling very well internationally (number 6 in Australia, number 14 in the UK, number 16 in New Zealand and number 18 in Japan).

National Lampoon’s Vacation (soundtrack)

Welcome to another edition of Soundtrack Sunday.

This week marks the thirtieth anniversary of the release of the movie National Lampoon’s Vacation, the hilarious cross-country family road trip tale that introduced us to the Griswold family. Written by John Hughes and directed by Harold Ramis, it starred Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, Anthony Michael Hall, Dana Barron, Randy Quaid, and Imogene Coca. Also making appearances were John Candy, Jane Krakowski and super-model Christie Brinkley.

Nicolette Larson - Nicolette

Today (July 17th) would have been the sixtieth birthday for American singer Nicolette Larson. She passed away on December 16, 1997, due to complications from cerebral edema triggered by liver failure.

The Montana born Larson worked with a number of artists in the early 1970’s including Neil Young, Hoyt Axton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. On September 29th of 1978, she released her first studio album entitled Nicolette. It soared up the US Billboard Hot 200, settling in at number 15. It also scored a number 1 on the Canadian album charts.

Christopher Cross - Christopher Cross

The Texas singer-songwriter Christopher Cross ended the 70's with his self-titled debut album, released in late December of 1979. Christopher Cross is a soft-rock classic that went multi-platinum in the US (reaching number 6 on the Billboard Album chart) as well as selling very well internationally (number 6 in Australia, number 14 in the UK, number 16 in New Zealand and number 18 in Japan). The record stayed on the US charts for the entire year and well into 1981, when it beat out Pink Floyd’s The Wall for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
