Shalamar - Friends (35th anniversary)

Today (January 29th) marks the 35th anniversary of Shalamar's release of their sixth studio album Friends. This certified Platinum album spent twenty-five weeks back in 1982 on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 35.

LaToya Jackson - Heart Don't Lie

This months marks the thirtieth anniversary of Heart Don't Lie, the third studio album from LaToya Jackson. It spent six weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, peaking at number 149.

Shalamar - The Look

Today (July 11th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of The Look, the seventh studio album from the R&B group Shalamar. While it only reached number 79 on the US Billboard Hot 200, it climbed all the way to number 13 on the US Billboard R&B chart and number 7 in the UK.

This was the final album for Shalamar that featured the line-up of Jeffrey Daniel, Howard Hewett and Jody Watley. Both Daniel and Watley would leave the group in the later part of the year.

The next few days bring a number of celebrations for American singer, songwriter, and producer Jody Watley. Watley was part of the trio that made up the classic line-up of Shalamar (along with Jeffrey Daniel and Howard Hewett). On Monday January 30th she celebrates her fifty-third birthday.

And Sunday January 29th is the 30th anniversary of Shalamar's release of their sixth studio album Friends. This certified Platinum album went to number 6 in the UK charts, number 35 on the US Billboard Album chart, and number 1 on the US R&B charts. The album featured the musical talents of a number of family members of the R&B group the Sylvers (Leon, Foster, Ricky and Patricia) as well as James Ingram.
