Carole King - Speeding Time

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Speeding Time, the thirteenth album from singer-songwriter Carole King. The record was the first of hers that failed to chart in the US, and it might have led to the six year studio recording hiatus she took until 1989‘s City Streets.

Joining the legendary performer on this record were Bob Glaub (bass), Bobbye Hall (percussion), Plas Johnson (saxophone), Robbie Konodor (synthesizer), Danny Kortchmar (guitar), and Russ Kunkel (drums).

Welcome to another edition of Seventies Saturday. Today (February 9th) we wish a very happy seventy-first birthday to American singer, songwriter and pianist Carole King.

Not resting idle after the release of her smash album Tapestry in February of 1971 (click here for that review), King followed it up in December of that same year with Music, her third studio album. It climbed all the way to the number 1 spot on the US Billboard Hot 200 by New Years Day of 1972, spending three consecutive weeks at that spot, and eventually achieved Platinum sales. It also went to number 28 in Japan, number 18 in the UK, number 10 in Norway and number 2 in Canada.

1971 began with the release of Carole King’s landmark album Tapestry (on February 10th of that year). Through out the 60’s, she had worked as a songwriter, penning tunes for other artists to turn into hits. She decided in the 70’s to start recording her songs herself; this would be her second studio release.
