Cameo - Single Life

Today (May 30th) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Single Life, the eleventh studio album from Cameo. This 1985 release hit number 66 in the UK, number 58 on the US Billboard Album chart (with a twenty-seven week total run) and number 2 on the US Billboard R&B chart.

Can't Stop the Music (soundtrack) (35th anniversary)


Welcome back to Soundtrack Saturday.

Today (May 30th) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of the release of the disco-celebration movie Can't Stop the Music which starred a very young Steve Guttenberg, Bruce Jenner (still a popular athletic figure), the vivacious Valerie Perrine, , and the colorful disco group Village People.

I freely admit I owned both a copy of the soundtrack and the DVD. It reminds me of some good times growing up as a kid of the 70's.

Suzanne Vega - Suzanne Vega (30th anniversary)

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of the self-titled debut album from Suzanne Vega. This 1985 release hit number 91 on the US Billboard Album chart (with a thirty-one week total run on the chart), number 54 in Germany, number 42 in Sweden, number 23 in Australia, number 11 in the Netherlands and the UK, and number 9 in New Zealand.

Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel III (35th anniversary)

This week (May 16th) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Peter Gabriel's third solo studio album. with a twenty-nine week total run on the US Billboard Album chart, it peaked at number 22.

Diana Ross - Diana

Today (May 22nd) marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of Diana, the tenth solo studio album from Motown legend Diana Ross. Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of Chic wrote all the tracks, performed on them, and produced the record. The result was Ross' biggest seller to date. The Platinum seller hit number 33 in Japan, number 17 in Australia, number 12 in the UK, number 8 in Canada, number 5 in Germany, number 4 in the Netherlands, and number 1 in Sweden. Here in the US, it spent fifty-two weeks on the Billboard Album chart with a peak at number 2, and it went to number 1 on the US Billboard R&B Album chart (a spot it held for eight weeks).

Today (May 21st) marks the thirtieth anniversary of Glow, the eighth studio album from Rick James. This one went to number 50 on the US Billboard Album chart (with a total chart run of twenty-six weeks) and number 1 on the US Billboard R&B chart.

This month marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of the release of the soundtrack from Urban Cowboy. The album spent forty-seven weeks on the US Billboard Album chart, including two weeks at its peak position of number 3. The film would open on June 6th of 1980.

Film: The Avengers - Age of Ultron (2015)

This past weekend marked the theatrical opening of The Avengers: The Age of Ultron, the second live-action installment in the Marvel super-team and the eleventh overall film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given all that, if you expect this one-hundred and forty-one minute installment to be jam-packed, you are right on the money! Come on - just look at that movie poster to the left! This is one big blockbuster.

Rick Springfield - Tao

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Tao, the tenth studio album from Rick Springfield. This record went to number 85 in Australia, number 50 in Canada, and number 21 on the US Billboard Album chart. It spent a total of twenty-seven weeks on the latter chart.

Eurythmics - Be Yourself Tonight

This month marks the thirtieth anniversary of Be Yourself Tonight, the fourth studio album from Eurythmics. This Platinum seller went to number 25 in Austria, number 20 in France, number 9 in Switzerland, number 8 in Germany, number 3 in the UK, number 2 in New Zealand, Norway and Sweden, and number 1 in Australia. Here in the US, it spent forty-five weeks on the Billboard Album chart with a top spot of number 9.

Missing Persons - Missing Persons (35th anniversary)

This month marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of the self-titled four-song debut EP from Missing Persons. However, it was out for over two years before it hit the charts; in May of 1982 it entered the US Billboard Album chart and spent forty-seven weeks total on the chart with a peak position of number 46.
